Fitness As A Metaphor For Marriage

By Penny Love Hoff One evening last week, as my husband and I sat watching the New York Mets in the playoffs (actually, he was watching and I was just sitting, thinking about what I was going to eat next),I noticed that the pro athletes on TV were amazingly fit. That thought led to the next, which was, How many hours of daily conditioning must these players need to be elite in their game? I am guessing that they’ve spent hours each day to be their best-I’m thinkin’ decathalon type of gym hours. My next thought was how Olympian my husband would be if he spent a similar amount of time to fine-tune our marriage. What would a “pro spouse” perform like? Imagine! Dedicating hours each day to hone marital performance: Hitting homers every time in bed, due to lots of batting practice , of course. Going 9 for 9 unloading the dishwasher! Being a first-stringer in every conversation! MVP for each anniversary! Completing 19 out of 20 (flirtatious)passes! Continuing along this line of reasoning, I realized that fitness could (or should) be a role model for getting our relationships in shape. Like being fit, marriage (or any other non-rookie relationship)requires daily exercises to keep those marital muscles in good range of motion. Imagine the contracts these high performers would sign! There may not be financial benefits, but the emotional rewards would be in the millions! Who needs money if you are ecstatic? Just like those who never work out, marriages, even in the rookie years, can be sent to the minor leagues, forever stuck playing AAA ball. Becoming sluggish, deconditioned to the rigors of daily partnership, in need of a regular regime that will strengthen and increase your marriage batting average. Couch potatoes find it hard to get up and get moving. If you’ve been married for decades, the same type of Barco-lounger mentality can settle in, making it impossible to get (it)up! As the Mets lost their chance to head to the World Series, I pondered the amount of effort it would take to become a marriage proNot everyone’s cut out to play in the Big Leagues, but it still can’t hurt to take a few swings at batting practice! I told my husband about my silly comparisons. Both of us were now imagining a fitness regime that toned up our muscles while tuning up our marriage. Since both fitness levels and relationship quality can increase their range of intensity, why not do both? Larry turned off the TV. Tomorrow we begin spring training. Dealing With Your Need For Medication For Depression

By Justin Meyer So the decision has been made that you need anti-depressants. This can be taken as either good or bad. Some people choose to see it as the first step to getting better. However, others view it as a sign that they are crazy. If you are in the first group, don’t dismiss this article, as your opinions may change later. But if you are in the second group, let me first stress something: You are not crazy. The medication is helping you by correcting your brain chemistry. It is keeping you from more advanced symptoms, and should be viewed as a good thing. It is easy to find that medication is tying you down, to start resenting your pills. Having to take them daily, sometimes twice a day can become burdensome. You may feel that they are limiting your life, as you are not supposed to drink alcohol while taking the pills. These are natural feelings. What is important is to not stop taking them. To deal with your feelings, it is best to first acknowledge them. If you only let them fester, then you will never really address them. So by bringing them out into the open, you can deal with them. Try talking about these feelings with a good friend or your therapist. Write them down. It may not help you to get over the feelings, but it will be a start. In time, you will become accustomed to them, and you will feel better about the medication. Kids & Cell Phones

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kanwal_Rathore]Kanwal Rathore The shops selling Cell Phones are increasing day by day. It will not be wrong if we say that it is the time of cell revolution. With the advancement in technology and increasing competition the Cell companies always try to introduce new features in their Cell Sets. Various new features offered by the cell phones are the main reason for their popularity. You can use it as a camera, a handy game, a diary, a phone book, stopwatch, alarm clock and many other ways. But the question is why these cell phones are so popular among kids? If a kid is asked, what he/she wants on its birthday? The common answer is surely a Cell phone. Cell phones have become so popular these days especially among the adolescents that cell phone companies sales have increased by a huge percentage in the recent years. It is because cell has become a style symbol. Formerly it was a need but now it has become a luxury. Every kid today longs for a cell phone whether he needs it or not and parents too fulfill each and every need of there child. The trend started from the children of VIPs for whom it was a need due to security reasons. But slowly widespread use of cell phones started. Now a day every teenager wants to have a latest Cell Phone. This trend is commonly seen in Asian Countries like India, China and many others. And now the condition is that approximately every fifty among the hundred teens have the cell phones. Lets talk about parents. Parents dont have any problem with their kids owning cell phones. If there are three teens in a family then all the three are having their own cells. It is because parents are worried about their childs security in todays fast moving world where number of accidents is increasing day by day. With the evolution of cell phones parents can now remain connected to their children every second. Also a child now itself can call police or ambulance in case of emergency. These days child kidnapping is increasing and with the help of cell phone the child can be easily located and kidnappers can be busted. As there is counter side of every aspect. Similar in the case of cell phones. Let us take an overview of various problems arising out of cell phones use: - 1. Littered school systems: - Theres lot of disturbance in schools due to cell phones. The head masters daily deliver lectures on this issue but the problem seems to have no solution. Some schools even have levied fines on the use of cells in the classrooms or even in school. School administrators are bothered about this problem. But if parents are considered they too carry the phones themselves and also back their children. So this should be forbidden. And kids and parents must support the school administration in maintaining the discipline. 2. Adverse effects on health: - In Cell phones the data transmitter and receiver use microwaves for the purpose. Or you can say two cells gets connected through the microwaves. These are very short wavelength waves and cause heating effect. Although the effect of cell frequencies is very slack but is sure enough more harmful for kids due to immaturity. So prolonged use of cell phones can cause severe health problems. This has been proven by many worldwide studies. 3. Loss of study: -These days children wish to converse with a friend on the phone, do net surfing or to play game than to concentrate on studies. Some even have plans that cell to cell are unlimited. And many of the plans have free night and weekend plans. Which would mean, you might never get the child off the phone over the weekend! Remember one thing: They spend hours on chatting on the cell phones. In todays scenario cell phones have greater charm than studies. Hence use of cell phones pose loss to child’s study. 4. Increase in expenses: -Greater the number of cell phones in a home greater is the bill. Children don’t care about how much their parents will pay for their luxuries, they are careless and don’t most of them have sense of responsibility. 5. Increasing electronic waste: - As the use of cell phones is increasing so is increasing the number of disposed off cells. Today every second person is keeping a cell phone, and when a person is all done with his cell then its nothing more than a scrap. This electronic waste is posing huge danger to the environment. 6. Pornography: - A few filthy People use pornography to earn easy money but they dont know how they are breaching the world culture. Primarily porn was propagated on the cyber world. But these days the vulgar MMSs are also circulating on the cell phones. Kids find fun in these kinds of activities because they dont sense or signify the vulgarity of porn. In my views whatever is the country or state, children are the building blocks of the society, economy, politics etc. and if they indulge in the pornography you can predict how coarse the future of world will be. Well as there are some aspects against cell phones but it doesnt mean that we eliminate cells from kids life. The ails of cell phones can be avoided by taking following measure: The problem of disturbance from the ring tones can be handled by the use of the vibrator. You can use the vibrator when you are in the school, class, and office or in the meeting. It wont disturb the people around you and you can take your cell with you every time. Also there are various facilities with which you can who tried to call you when your phone was silent or even switched off. Well health is the most important asset of yours so you cannot compromise with any thing harming your health. The effect of using cell is although very slow but you can remain fit if you just acquire right habits of using cell phones i.e. avoid placing cell near significant organs of the body like heart, brain etc for long time. Especially for kids as there organs are much softer and under development. As far as the loss of studies is concerned the parents must keep checking that their child isnt using the cell frequently. Also parents should recharge the phone every month as part of their allowance. This will give child a feel of being checked Because, when the talk time is finished then its all done and they will get the new recharge only by the next month! This will hopefully build a level of responsibility. Pornography on cell phones is the biggest matter of concern. You may have listened about many such incidents. Now parents supply their kids with the latest mobiles having all the new technologies in order to exhibit their status but they dont even try to see what their child is doing in his bedroom. I think parents must feel their responsibility to monitor if their kids are indulging in any dirty business. Most children dont care about the parents pocket they just want their cell charged so parents can make use of the shared plan. Using a prepaid phone will give the kid a certain amount of minutes per month. After that, it’s up to him to use their pocket money to recharge the phone time if they need to. Also roaming fees is another headache. If someone isn’t in its “area” as defined by the cell service provider, he will have to pay the roaming fee for incoming and outgoing calls. To avoid the roaming charges you need to do is to simply buy a phone and then buy minutes, as you need them. Most of them include roaming as well as nationwide coverage. Any material thing becomes a junk after its lifetime so is the case with the cell phones. But throwing out the worn-out cell is not the solution at all. It will lead to the problem of electronic waste as many countries are struggling to manage increasing computer waste. So the worn-out cells must be recycled instead of being thrown away. How Becoming a Grandparent Changed My Life

By Carine Nadel I became a grandparent three days ago. The little guy has already changed me - drastically. Before I proceed, I will admit several things: I am so happy that the “mother’s curse” works. Until he was born, I did not like the idea of being called grandma. Somehow I am a much wiser person and have new found respect from our daughter. When our daughter and son-in-law told us eight months ago about this intended birth, I will say I was wholly unprepared to be a grandmother. I don’t know why, but I always picture someone who looks like Auntie Em from the Wizard of Oz, as what a grandma should look like. My grandmother didn’t look like that! My mother, god bless her, is 77, refuses to wear anything less than a 2″ heel and has never in my 49 years made homemade cookies-oh and she still has more black hair than gray and has never, ever dyed her mane. But I still think of grandmas as being, well, matronly. So it was with great apprehension that I took the news. Only my husband acted more “freaked out” about this next step in life than I did. I think that’s why pregnancy is supposed to last 40 weeks, so grandparents can get used to the idea. I say supposed to because my mom had 3 premies, I had 2, my sister had 2 and our daughter just had her first. Seems we like to have our kids, small, early and fast! About the mother’s curse: I bestowed it on my wonderful daughter when she was around 10. She was really being, for lack of a better word, a “pill” one day and I said: May you grow up and have two children just like you my love! She cried, buckets-asking why I hated her so. Ah, kids. Anyway, I’m half way to seeing “the curse” come true. While I did not want to be called grandma at first, seeing that little tiny bundle of joy for the first time changed me-immediately. Somehow, the incubator, the heat lamps, the IV’s sticking out of that poor baby melted my heart. When I heard that he was in good enough condition to go home 24 hours later without any monitors, I found myself crying in relief. The next day when I arrived at my daughter’s home, it felt different-it was now a real home, with a warmth it didn’t seem to have before the arrival of this boy named Dylan. Our daughter wanted to talk about the pain and worry of giving birth. She couldn’t understand how she would ever be able to love another baby when her heart was overflowing now. I assured her that she would soon forget the physical pain and get used to the exhaustion. When the time came, the next child would soon fill a different section of her heart-the same way her brother did. That yes, the love of your first child is like none other, but that the love of any subsequent children would be just as special, but different, just like them. She wanted to know how I knew so much? I told her she too would be just as worldly and knowledgeable-she just wouldn’t know it for about twenty-five years or so, when her child became a parent. As for being called grandma-it will be more than my pleasure. It may even be my true calling. Carine Nadel is enjoying the many aspects of getting older. Calorie Restriction - A No Win Proposition!

By Michael Huddleston We have a very advanced and intricate array of metabolic checks and balances. Among these is something called the survival mechanism, which is responsible for the regulation of your metabolic rate in response to caloric intake. Your body has unique capabilities The human body is much more sophisticated than many people realize. In order to survive through food shortages, extreme weather conditions, the constant attack of viruses and bacteria, and other threats to human existence, we have developed a very advanced and intricate array of checks and balances. Among these survival mechanisms is regulation of metabolic rate in response to caloric intake. Natural Safety Mechanism When caloric intake is restricted, the body compensates by reducing metabolic rate. Consequently, fewer calories and less fat is burned. Much obesity research has been directed at defining the physiological mechanisms involved in fat regain subsequent to fat loss, because researchers believe that this avenue of investigation may yield treatments or a cure for obesity. Leptin has generated more questions than answers Along this same thought, the discovery of the hormone-like substance Leptin, produced by fat cells under the direction the “ob” gene, created quite a stir in the research community a several years ago. Since then, a profusion of studies have been performed, which have generated more questions than answers about this puzzling substance. Leptin levels are higher in obese individuals and are altered by weight loss. However, while it’s highly probable that leptln plays an important role in body fat regulation generally, lipoprotein lipase and thyroid hormones appear to be more instrumental in regulating metabolism in response to short-term changes in caloric intake. - Lipoprotein lipase, a lipogenic (fat-storing) enzyme, increases markedly when calories are restricted. - At the same time, production of the thyroid hormone (T3) decreases. The down regulation of T3 slows metabolism, resulting in preservation of muscle mass but also body fat. The metabolic adjustments to reduced caloric intake make sense from the standpoint of survival: the slower one’s metabolism, the more “mileage” one gets out of a given quantity of stored energy (fat), and the longer one remains alive during a famine (and the longer one remains alive during a famine, the greater the likelihood that conditions will change, food will be found, and death will be averted). What happens when you increase your caloriic intake? When you resume normal eating, lipoprotein lipase activity remains elevated and metabolic rate remains depressed, causing you to quickly regain the lost fat, and maybe even a little extra fat as insurance against the next “famine.” Stated differently, the rate of fat storage is increased after a period of calorie restriction, and it stays that way until the pre-diet level of body fat is re-established. This demonstrates the futility of trying to achieve permanent fat loss solely by means of calorie restriction. In addition, you invariably lose precious muscle tissue. This further retards metabolism and adversely affects the shape, tone, and functional ability of the body, muscle loss resulting from restrictive dieting ranges from 20% - 40% of total weight. With this muscle loss to fat loss ratio, body composition may only improve marginally while on the diet. And when the diet ends, and the fat returns but the muscle does not, body composition worsens. Bottom Line: In this vicious cycle, you go from being fat and flabby, to being less fat but more flabby, to ultimately becoming fatter and flabbier than ever. http://www.carbohydrate-guide.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Huddleston http://EzineArticles.com/?Calorie-Restriction—A-No-Win-Proposition!&id=385752 adverse credit online loan no score personal loans bad credit personal unsecured loans how to pay off payday loans

You can get trapped in a black hole and frustrated that your career is not advancing to full potential. Ever feel imprisoned in positions that lacked adequate reward, satisfaction, challenge or a future? There are many reasons for these job jails: Youve become too specialized. Find the chief five employers that serve that market segment. Hack #3: Know your most marketable skills, competency, and relevant background. Leverage your knowledge to solve employer problems through tailored special-ops marketing tactics that creates you stickiness in decision makers minds. Hack#6: Know how to multiply your access to those who have the power to hire. Networking is out. Building strategic relationships is in. Be therewhere. Informational meetings with those who have knowledge that you need puts you in the drivers seat when hiring patterns emerge. Acai Berry - The Number 1 Superfood

By Larry Scott A special palm tree in Brazils Amazon rainforest produces one of the most powerful and nutritious foods in the world - the high-energy Acai berry. It is widely acknowledged to be one of the richest sources of antioxidants of any fruit known to man. Underlying its deep purple color are antioxidants, essential fatty acids and amino acids that your body hungers for. The berry has 10 times more antioxidant power than red grapes which are believed to help combat premature aging. The berries also contain other elements that promote better cardiovascular and digestive health. These berries contain large amounts of protein and fiber, and also have omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. These omega fatty acids have been studied for years as a way to protect the heart from damage, and they may be able to reduce the amount of cholesterol in the blood, providing possible protection from heart attacks, strokes and other common cardiovascular complications. In addition to promoting better cardiovascular health, this superfood promotes greater stamina, improved digestion, sharper mental focus, better sleep, improved sex drive, stronger immune system, fights cancer cells, attacks premature aging and promotes younger and healthier looking skin. Here are some ways you can get Acai: Acai juice - Acai juice is extremely perishable and must be consumed within the first 24 hours of being picked in order to benefit from its nutritional value. Acai pulp - Frozen Acai pulp is available but must be kept frozen during shipment and therefore can become expensive. You can find Acai smoothies at a number of different juice bars. Acai supplements - You need to be careful when choosing Acai supplements. Acai pulp can be dehydrated and freeze-dried before being put into capsules. Unfortunately, many of the supplements that show up in your local health food market are processed in a way so that they retain almost none of the fresh Acai nutritional benefits. However you decide to ingest your Acai, make sure the Acai is of high quality and you will find that it will enhance your life and your health. 5 Tips For Weight Loss

By Hilda Maria Are you ready to lose some weight? Perhaps youre surfing for the magic pill that will vanish your weight away. Maybe youre simply searching for the right information to help you lose and keep the weight off. Whatever the case, heres some surefire tips to help you with your weight loss. 1. Do your homework. As you start your weight loss plan, take the time to carefully evaluate your situation. What caused the weight gain? Pregnancy? Inactivity? Overeating and binging? Emotions? There are many triggers in our lives that will cause us to gain weight. Some can be prevented or eliminated, some cant. Its important as you begin your weight loss to understand and come to grips with the cause of your weight. Be honest with yourself. Dont cheat on this one. Obviously, you want to have your weight loss become permanent. In order to keep off the weight in the future, you may have to make some lifestyle changes to stay slim. Dont give up before you start. Theres usually more than one solution to any weight gain reason. Just remain open-minded, and be willing to change to get the results you desire. Dont hesitate to read and learn as much as you can about weight gain. Its really easy to understand, and you may be surprised at what you learn. 2. Avoid Hidden Calories. Heres an over simplified version of weight loss and weight maintenance if you eat more than your body needs, you gain weight. If you eat less (reduce calories) than your body needs, you lose weight! While it sounds simple enough, just eat less .Right? Basically thats true. Yet, there are other things that come into play as one is trying to lose weight. One common mistake many people make as they diet is the fact they dont really understand how much is provided by the food they are eating. This is especially true with eating out and eating snack foods and beverages. A serving as defined by the scientific communities on weight loss and a serving that your local restaurant provides is most often very different. For example, one serving of bread is typically one slice. Yet, the average bun in a fast food restaurant is actually almost three servings. A single serving of French fries is 15 fries. Just take a guess at how many servings are in a Biggie French fry container. Also, dont be fooled into thinking just because a bag of popcorn is small, that its a single serving. The same thing goes for beverages. The bottle may contain16 oz. Yet, the serving size may be 4 ounces. Pay attention to actually how many servings of food and beverages you are actually consuming. The amount may surprise you. Ill give you an example, my son-in-law whos 28 was had put on several pounds. His favorite cola is Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew has higher sugar content than most other colas. He didnt have a clue as to how may calories he was consuming by drinking 3 or 4 24 oz bottles a day. When my daughter told him, he was amazed. He replaced the cola with water and went from a 38 waist to a 34 waist in about two months. Be careful, you may be consuming more than you think. 3. Consider Diet Pills Carefully. Maybe one of your diet buddies has decided to buy diet pills, or maybe you’ve seen or heard a commercial for diet supplements promising easy fast weight loss. If so, please evaluate CAREFULLY! Even the most natural-sounding diet pills or weight loss supplements can be useless for weight loss, or dangerous, or both. Diet pills are very tempting things if you want to lose weight, especially if you have tried several conventional weight loss plans without success. The side effects and dangers of some diet and weight loss pills can vary enormously because many of these pills contain a cocktail of ingredients and because dosage instructions may be inadequate. Possible side effects include: nervousness, tremor, diarrhea, bulging eyes, racing heartbeat, elevated blood pressure even heart failure. There are some instances when diet pills can be helpful. Usually these are indicated in the truly obese person. For the person wanting to lose 5 or 10 pounds, they usually arent necessary. So you may ask, how does the diet pills work to cause weight loss, while I continue to eat the same amount? In recent years, it seems everyone has the PERFECT answer to help with your weight loss. There are almost as many weight loss methods and diet pills available as there are people who want to lose weight. There are diet pills that stop your hunger so you eat less and burn more fat. There are diet pills that cause the body not to metabolize all the food you eat, so its passed out of your system and not stored as fat. Theres combination of these two. As you begin your search for the perfect diet pill, be careful as some can have harmful effects on your body. Diet Pills work by shifting levels of brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that control satiety (fullness) and desire for food. Some also slightly increase your metabolic rate - the rate at which your body burns calories. Examples of weight loss diet pills include: Diethylpropion hydrochloride (eg. Tenuate) Mazindol (eg. Mazanor, Sanorex) Phendimetrazine tartrate (eg. Bontril) Phentermine hydrochloride (eg. Adipex-P, Ionamin) 4. Monitor/Increase Your Activity - Regardless whether youre taking diet pills or not to help with your weight loss, its still important to maintain a regular exercise program. This is beneficial not only for your weight loss, but also for your overall health. In many ways we in the developed country have a much more sedentary lifestyle than our bodies need. Obviously its easier for us than in the era when people had to be very active simply to survive, yet its not necessarily healthy for us not to be active. Start and maintain some sort of exercise plan no matter what your age. Especially for the middle-aged and older people exercise play a very, very important role in the quality of health and staying within normal weight ranges. 5. Develop a Plan for Maintenance. Even if youre taking diet pills to help with your weight loss its important to keep in mind, that once you stop the pills, unless you maintain a balance between your activity level and the food you eat the weight will come back. While it may take some time to become accustomed to a change in diet and activity, the rewards are well worth the time and effort spent to reach and maintain a healthy weight. How Distressing is Social Phobia?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Rayel] Michael Rayel I remember a friend in college who would blush, sweat, and tremble when required by a teacher to speak in class. A few weeks before the presentation, hed be anxious, agitated, and couldnt sleep. Because I was still a student then, I didnt have any clue what he was going through. But I knew that something was terribly wrong. A few years ago while in the airport, I noticed a man whod wait for everyone to leave the washroom before hed use the urinal. He wasnt comfortable that someone would see him urinate. In retrospect, I can say (now that Im a psychiatrist) that those two individuals might have suffered from Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). I just hope that they are doing well now but the symptoms that they manifested at the time were consistent with this devastating illness. How bad is Social Phobia or SAD? Social Phobia or SAD is a type of anxiety disorder characterized by extreme fear, anxiety, or distress when exposed to a social gathering or when doing something before a group of people. Public speaking is the most common situation that exposes the individuals social fears. An individual suffering from this disorder develops significant anxiety symptoms such as sweating, fast heart beat, tremulousness, and restlessness when making a presentation or giving a minor talk. Even small corporate or committee meetings can cause grave distress. Urinating in public washrooms, eating in fast food restaurants, writing in front of people or signing documents in a bank can also trigger feelings of fear and discomfort. Individuals with this illness are preoccupied with being embarrassed or criticized by others. Some patients feel that people are so focused on them and are only waiting for blunders to happen. So Social Phobia can be devastating to a lot of patients and their families. Because of their difficulties in a social milieu, some of them have eventually lost their jobs, friends, and spouses. It is an illness that has wrought havoc to many. It is therefore vital that Social Phobia should be recognized and treated without delay. Is there any treatment for this illness? Fortunately, some newer antidepressants such as paroxetine and venlafaxine are known to work and have caused significant relief to a lot of individuals. However, these medications dont work right away. They need to be taken daily for a few weeks to see any benefit. Moreover, the medications maximum effect may occur within 6-8 weeks or longer. To maintain stability after feeling normal, patients may have to take the medication for several months to a few years. In addition to medications, cognitive-behavioral intervention also works well. By restructuring the persons cognition, patients eventually learn to face social situations without fear and uncertainty. Dr. Michael G.
